Cornerstone Jail is a professional application used by corrections officers on shift. This page explains, in plain English, what the app collects, what it doesn't, and how to get help.
Who we are
Cornerstone Jail is provided by Cornerstone Technology Systems, LLC (an Ohio limited liability company). The app is sold to public safety agencies that subscribe to the Cornerstone suite; individual users are staff at those agencies and use the app with accounts their agency issues them.
What the app collects
Everything below is collected only to make the app work for the agency. It is linked to the signed-in officer's identity, is never used for advertising, and is never used to track anyone across other apps or websites.
- Name. The signed-in officer's display name, so that the agency's audit trail shows who took each action.
- Email address. Used to sign in and identify the account.
- User ID. The internal identifier for the officer's account (audit trail actor and per-user preferences).
- Device ID. A per-install identifier generated the first time the app is opened and kept in the phone's secure Keychain. It is included with audit entries so a supervisor can see which physical device recorded an action. It is not the Apple advertising identifier; the app does not request App Tracking Transparency and does not read the IDFA.
- Photos. Inmate mugshots and injury photos captured through the app, plus the officer's own staff photo (a selfie they take from the Profile screen so their face appears next to their name across Cornerstone Jail and Cornerstone Risk).
- Other content entered by staff. Free-text and structured entries the officer makes — incident narratives, logbook entries, conduct-notice text, and on-glass inmate signatures collected during property, release, and hearing workflows.
- Health information. Answers the officer enters in the inmate medical screening module during intake (medical, mental-health, and PREA-style questions about the person being booked). This is Health data in Apple's App Store taxonomy because it describes a person's medical condition, even though the officer types the answers themselves rather than reading them from HealthKit.
Why we collect it
To operate the app for the agency — recording bookings, counts, rounds, incidents, screenings, property, and everything else the agency uses Cornerstone Jail to record. Nothing else.
What we don't do
- No advertising. The app shows no ads, uses no ad networks, and does not read the Apple advertising identifier.
- No cross-app or cross-website tracking. The app does not use App Tracking Transparency and does not share data with any third-party analytics, advertising, or attribution service.
- No sale or sharing of your data. Cornerstone does not sell agency data or share it with any third party for their own purposes. Data is stored with our hosting provider (Microsoft Azure) on our behalf, under a standard data-processing arrangement.
- No usage analytics. The app does not bundle posthog, mixpanel, amplitude, Segment, Google Analytics, or any equivalent SDK, and does not send product-interaction events.
- No crash reporting. The app does not bundle Sentry, Bugsnag, Crashlytics, or any equivalent SDK, and does not send crash or performance reports.
- No location. The app has no location plugin and does not read GPS or IP geolocation.
Face ID
If you turn on Face ID unlock, your face data never leaves your device. Face ID is processed by the iOS Secure Enclave; the app only receives a yes/no answer from the operating system. We do not receive, store, or transmit face images or face templates.
Data retention
Records created in the app are kept according to the agency's own records-retention requirements. Corrections records typically have to be retained for years under state law, and the agency (not Cornerstone) controls how long any particular record is kept.
Account deletion and questions
Accounts are managed by the officer's own agency. To request account deletion, or to ask any privacy question, email us at support@cornerstonetech.online. The app also offers a Request account deletion option from the Profile screen that sends the same request.
Children
Cornerstone Jail is not intended for and is not made available to children. Accounts are issued only to adult staff of the subscribing agency.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date at the top of the page. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
